Blown Head Gasket.. It's about time

Post by conrad1468 » Wed Aug 02, 2017 3:31 pm

Hello Gang,
After 20k miles of ownership I thought my head gasket would last a lifetime. But sadly in the last 2 days the head gasket blew out thru the combustion chamber. The engine has never overheated. So that's the plus side.

View of the leaking gasket.

Now I get to learn how to do a head gasket on Rover. Good times and always learning!

It's not that bad of a job. It's all just nuts and bolts.

You're right sir. Hopefully be able to get some wrench time in this weekend.

New head gasket kit from Atlantic British arrived today. They threw in a free copy of Alloy N Grit magazine. Excellent read.

The headgasket replacement is a success!! It's a scary moment when you finally turn the key. The fuel system needed primed after a few cranks. She fired up! It didn't sound right and the lights were flickering. I forgot to connect the alternator and plugs 4 & 6 wires were switched. Swapped the wires and connected the ALT. Now purrs like a kitten.

Some pictures of the replacement.
