Greensburg Series III

Post by freelander02 » Thu Oct 22, 2009 11:12 pm

Saw a very nice Series III 109 four-door pickup (?) just off Rt 66 at the 66 Auto Mart. It's a small lot/garage near the 66 Bypass interchange with Rt 66. I talked with the owner of the garage but he won't tell me the owner's name. I carded the truck.

Any one know the owner?

i know right where you are talking about. that garage has alot of european cars. I've seen a couple of LR's at that garage. I stopped and looked at a couple of BMW's a few year ago.

He has a few decent cars just wasting away in the lot. There's one poor Roller there.

I've been noticing a lot of Rovers lately. I'm not sure if they've always been there and I've never noticed them until becoming afflicted ... it seems though that most of the folks aren't as friendly as I've been told Landie owners usually are. Most of the folks I see driving their Landies are the rich, mink-coat wearing soccer mom types. And while I am a soccer mom, and I would wear a mink coat if I had one, I would feel the need to have shot the mink myself first and I certainly am NOT rich.

I do have an interesting Rover story however. I was entering the highway and some kind Rover driver slowed down to let me in. He then pulled alongside, we nodded and waved to each other, and went on our way. It was pretty neat, like exchanging a secret handshake or something.

Also, what is this carding thing that you talk about?

Welcome to Land Rover ownership. The problem with many of the stuck-up, mink-wearing types is that they really don't understand the spirit and heritage of the Land Rover. They think of it only as a status symbol, one that they can use to elevate themselves so as to gain a better view down their nose. They also usually don't know the difference between Range Rover and Land Rover. The other thing is they probably can't recognize any Landy that's not identical to theirs. If they only knew how much more exclusive some of our trucks are than their late model RR or LR3....

Oh well, enjoy the waves you do get. They're people worth knowing.

"Carding" is the practice of placing an FPLRG business card on a Rover that you spot parked somewhere. Sort of like gentlemen's gang-tagging...

So I guess I shouldn't tell Megan it's OK to spray paint "FPLRG.org was here...call John Kostuch for a good time" down the side of every RRSpt and LR4 I see at the mall? Darn.

I could make up a stencil of the FPLRG logo; it would look vaguely pentagram-ish...

I have noticed that with any new-to-you car you drive, you immediately notice many on the road. Admittedly there are not many Series trucks or even 109s but Discos pop up a lot especially as the weather turns a proper crispness. Add to this, what Harold said. Rangie drivers particularly are a clueless lot concerning heritage, but that probably not why they bought on in the first place.

So they buy their's for conspicuous consumption. We buy ours in an attempt to return as many fossil fuels to the earth as possible?
