PVGP 2020 - Oxford

Post by freelander02 » Wed Jan 22, 2020 12:42 am

Oxford. SNX 891 of First Overland fame is coming to North America. It is on a ship off the coast of Canada as I type this. Oxford will be touring the country going to different events through August. It will reach the west coast and then be driven back east to MAR over the trans America trail. I think we have an opportunity to have Oxford visit Pgh -- have it on display at the PVGP. Chances of getting Oxford to Pgh/PVGP would be greatly increased if we could provide transport of Oxford to and/or from PVGP. Is this something the club would support?

I will support this, club or not, but I doubt there has ever been a better reason for all of us to come together and accomplish something.

Let's do this!

I'm in for it. As much as I can volunteer for a "going and not knowing" kind of thing, count me in. Cool idea!

Talked with PVGP director and David Short, ROAV president (he is managing Oxford In America) today.

Oxford will be at British Car Day. I asked for a display area or tent or something to show off Oxford. PVGP is considering. They are going to contact both LR dealers about displaying/sponsoring Oxford. I suggested a $1,000 donation to the Oxford In America GoFundMe. Rahal sponsors a PVGP event two days before British Car Day. A&L sponsors BCD. Oxford could make both events.

Oxford will be in Western New York (maybe northwest PA) around Fourth of July. Lucky 8 has the truck then for an event. I ask the club to transport Oxford to Pittsburgh. I'm guessing flatbed trailered to a secure location with escort (that be cool).

Oxford needs to be in Colorado by the end of the week after BCD. If you can transport all or part of the way, I'll put you in contact with David Short. If a volunteer doesn't work out, he will pay to have it transported. To be clear, we are not on the hook to transport Oxford out west. David is looking for any volunteers though.

I can provide the "secure location" for storage before/after the event.

We're on the hook to get Oxford early in July. Best to flat bed trailer it from the event Lucky8 is having. Not sure if it is western NY or NW Pa. Of course a Land Rover escort to accompany.

Once Oxford arrives here, is the plan for it to show at some of the early VGP events? Can you imagine driving it on the Rallye? Not that anybody would, but it's an interesting thought.

I'm hoping for a display of honor. Worth asking if it can be driven on the course though. good idea.

Then, you could get an action shot enjoying the view out the roof whilst cruising down the road. Tempting?
